Many people have been to a Fancy Dress Party of some kind or another. Maybe it was at School or College. Maybe it was a friend’s party. Maybe it was your own! Valentines, St George, St David, Burns Night, Halloween, Knights, Princesses, Cowboys, Sultans, Vicars & Tarts, 1970s Disco, 1980s, Abba, Status Quo, the list is endless. And they are becoming more and more popular. Why? Because we all need cheering up occasionally! We work longer hours, commute many miles to work, during the winter months many do not see their own homes during the hours of daylight except at weekends. Doom and gloom! Have a party to cheer ourselves and our friends up! Great place to network and let your hair down. Plus you don’t have to get drunk to have a good time! There is music, food, drink and many like minded folks in one place. In the summer, hold it outdoors. Create a scene indoors using scene setters and a bit of imagination. Dressing up is also a good talking point. Let your alter ego do the talking! It doesn’t matter if “your bum looks big in this”. Dress up as a famous person and “pretend”. This is something you did as a child, so why not do as an adult! Fancy Dress has come a long way in the last few years. Every costume imaginable from Little Britain to Grand Opera. You can be as grand as you like! From a wig and moustache to a full blown Marie Antoinette. Be as bold as you dare! There are decorations for every event available nowadays. A coloured theme party is by far the easiest – think outside the box!

Celebrities have partied long and hard for years. Just ask Elton John about his White Tie and Tiara parties! Recently, Conrad Black and his wife – extravagance at its best/worst!

Children’s Parties

Not just a party. More of an army manoeuver. Not just food and drink. Party bags bring thoughts of horror to any Mum or Dad! Walls need covering (check out our scene setters for ideas), furniture needs protecting (plastic tablecloths are ideal), Mark the Magician needs booking !!?? From Safari to Underwater, Princess to Soldier, the themes are endless. Many supermarkets cater for the licensed party goods ie Bratz and Winnie the Pooh, but we like to go that bit further. Children’s interests are far and wide – nowadays anything can be turned into a themed party! Think of their interests or hobbies. Do they like nature? Do they like sport? What cartoons do they like? TV programmes? How about a colour theme? Princess party turned into a pink party – much easier! Football turned into a blue or red party. What about a two-colour themed party. Boys in one colour, girls in another, both have to wear 2 colours. Think about colours which complement or are opposites. Blue and Yellow, Pink and Green, Black and White.

Plates, napkins, cups and party bags are all available in the same theme. Even dressing up in a certain theme is allowed! Party bags no longer contain just a piece of cake or games, it has to be latest designer gizmo. Presents are getting bigger and more expensive. When we were young, a piece of cake was a prized possession if you went to a party. Now, what about a Wii?

Bring Kids Parties back to basics. Offer a fantastic theme and a party bag full of goodies all at a realistic price. If it is something different, then it will be remembered more than a party bag which contained the most expensive favor that money can possibly buy. Kids want entertainment and fun when they go to a party. No need to hire Clancy the Clown at £250 an hour to scare your little darlings. Why not get a Pinata and let them win their own party bag fillers. Every child gets a go and it’s a modern day pass the parcel! Pin the tail on the donkey – we have an inflatable donkey and blindfold! Treasure hunt (pirate style), Oscar night (guess who the real star is), pyjama party! Let us know what your favourite is!

Do something they can all remember – it doesn’t take huge amounts of money. We don’t all need a top class Clown or Magician. A little thought and some input from the little ones goes along way!

If you decide on a licensed party theme, ie where plates, cups etc have pictures of Simpsons on etc, then you can purchase co-ordinating colours of plain tablecloths and cutlery. Whey purchase expensive licensed items when just with a bit of imagination you can add blue and yellow at a very reasonable price.
